On-Campus Summer Program Electives
The Academy’s On-Campus Summer Electives are designed to provide students with a unique and customizable educational experience allowing for additional focus in specialized areas of actor training. Electives generally meet four hours per week for five consecutive weeks. Course content and meeting times may vary. One Elective is included in the On-Campus Five-Week Program. You may add up to two additional electives for $250 each.
On-Campus Electives
Learn and develop necessary skills for auditioning for film and television, including how to analyze sides, adapt to direction and feedback, and what to expect in the audition room when working with casting professionals.
Students will be introduced to the business skills required for working in the profession, including résumés, headshots, auditions, agents, casting directors, unions and other aspects related to the development of a professional actor’s career in film, television and theatre.
In this course, students will gain an experiential understanding of improvisational acting and develop strong moment-to-moment skills that are essential to spontaneity and creativity in scripted work. Through theatre games and exercise-work, students will develop tools to increase their listening/responding skills and to become more trusting of their own impulses.
Students will learn how to select and prepare song material of varying styles (traditional, contemporary, rock/folk/pop music), select appropriate cuts for auditions and what to expect in the audition room. Emphasis is placed on guiding the actor to select the very best material to market their unique self and to begin (or continue) to build an audition book of repertoire.
