Intensives  

Available for Seven-Week, Four-Week and Two-Week Programs, our Intensives allow you to hone in and focus on a single aspect of your craft. Each Intensive is designed to bring a select number of advanced actors, educators and beginning students alike the level of specialization that you desire.


New York Intensives

Musical Theatre

This Intensive is designed for actors seeking to broaden their understanding of the particular skill-set required for working in musical theatre. It is comprised of coursework in acting, dance, song interpretation, vocal technique and individual coaching. Led by faculty currently working with the Broadway community and with a breadth of knowledge across numerous musical styles, students will learn how to select appropriate repertoire and prepare audition material. The Intensive includes a final presentation for friends and family on the last day of the course. The Intensive will culminate in a 2-hour Master Class, with feedback provided by a NYC casting director.

  • Bring a prepared 16-bar audition song with sheet music in your key to the first class. Assessment and song assignments are given on the first day of class.
  • Bring appropriate dance attire and tap shoes (if you already own them).

Course of study:
Jazz / Tap - 6 hours per week
Voice Technique - 4 hours per week
Song Interpretation - 4 hours per week
Acting Exercises/Monologue/Cold Readings - 6 hours per week
Performance Master Class - 4 hours per week
Casting Director Master Class - 2 hours on the final day

On-Camera Technique

This Intensive is designed for actors who want to deepen their understanding of auditioning for on-camera projects. Actors will learn how to thoroughly prepare audition sides, as well as successfully execute cold readings. In addition, they will explore the differences between commercial, film and television and the best methods of auditioning for each. Upon completion, actors will have gained a comprehensive understanding of on-camera auditioning and how to utilize newly acquired skills to audition successfully. The Intensive will culminate in a 2-hour Master Class, with feedback provided by a NYC casting director.

On-Camera Class - 12 hours per week
Voice & Speech - 4 hours per week
Acting Exercises & Improv - 6 hours per week
Business Skills - 2 hours per week
Casting Director Master Class - 2 hours on the final day

Audition Technique

Auditions, whether for schools or roles in plays, film or television, are a fact of life for all actors. This two-week Intensive is designed to prepare individuals who have an understanding of acting basics for a successful audition. The course concentrates on how to select and prepare appropriate audition material (contrasting monologues and songs) for conservatory/college programs, graduate school (MFA/MA) programs, and professional auditions. Curiosity, intuition, and deductive reasoning are used in this step-by-step process that breaks down the audition for the actor and teaches techniques and strategies to use in any given situation. The Intensive will culminate in a 2-hour Master Class, with feedback provided by a NYC casting director.

Los Angeles Intensives

Camera Acting for Film & Television

Designed for beginning to intermediate actors who want a deeper understanding of working in film and television, including the “business of the business,” this Intensive provides a professional and thorough understanding of the on-camera process and how to alleviate the anxiety of working on camera. Courses explore the various genres within film and television, including the TV sitcom, commercial acting, film and live television. The Intensive will culminate in a 2-hour Master Class, with feedback provided by an LA casting director.

Working in Film - 4 hours per week

Advanced Camera Acting for Film & Television

Designed for students who have already completed Camera I or the First Year of The Academy’s Full-Time Conservatory Program, this Intensive provides a deeper understanding of the on-camera process. Courses explore the various genres within film and television and are designed to enhance the actors’ comfort levels with working on camera. The Intensive will culminate in a 2-hour Master Class, with feedback provided by an LA casting director.

Audition Technique

Auditions, whether for schools or roles in plays, film or television, are a fact of life for all actors. This two-week Intensive is designed to prepare individuals who have an understanding of acting and singing basics for a successful audition. Topics include finding your type, picking strong material, preparing for and performing your audition, improvisation in an audition setting and cold readings. This Intensive is designed for both actors auditioning for schools/festivals and working actors who want to improve their skills. Students should come prepared with at least two monologues of contrasting values that can be presented in class.
